Toreros

(Matadors, Novilleros, Rejoneadores, etc.)

Biographical information about toreros, whether currently living, active, or retired, is available from a number of sources on the Internet. It is difficult (due to, among other things, the frequent changing of internal addresses within websites) to keep links to information about specific bullfighters current. In order to avoid the frustration of stale links, this page (and others in our Who's Who section) will link to information about specific bullfighters only where that information is resident on one of our pages, or on a website specific to the individual bullfighter.

Collections of biographical information will be provided as well, but you'll have to visit those sites to see what bullfighters are included.

Collections of biographical information:

Las Ventas.com
This website -- the "official" website of the cathedral of bullfighting in Madrid, one of the most important in the world -- provides (in its "los toreros" section) biographical information on the bullfighters who have appeared in that plaza this season. The information typically includes a color, portrait photo, data on this season's Las Ventas appearances (numbers of appearances and awards), links to narrative articles and photos of this year's appearances, etc. More extensive biographical information is provided in the "toreros de madrid" section, but on an extremely small number of home town boys.

Los Toros: Bienvenido a la Fiesta Brava
Brief biographical data (name, birthdate and place, alternativa facts, corridas and ears in the 1996 temporada) for more than 100 toreros. No indication when the page was last updated, but judging from the inclusion of 1996 temporada data, there may have been no update since approximately 1997.

"Matadors"
Among other things, this site is an homage to seven of the most influential/renowned bullfighters of the last two hundred years (Francisco Romero, Pedro Romero, Juan Belmonte, Joselito "El Gallo," Manolete, Dominguin, Ordóñez, and El Cordobés). Thin on substance, the site nevertheless has interesting photos and information not readily available elsewhere on the Internet.

¡Nuestra Fiesta Brava!
Site previously named Bullfighting in Mexico! and ¡Toros en México! depending on language. The matadors section contains data on 13 Mexican toreros in a photo-illustrated narrative format. Most include birthdate and place, alternativa information, data on recent seasons, etc. Two toreros are included in the novilleros section.

Portal Taurino
Site that in an earlier in[ternet]carnation was called "Toros en Sevilla." In the section "base de datos," the listing of matadors includes more than 600 entries (active, retired, and dead toreros included). Most include the birthdate and place, alternativa information, data about activity in recent temporadas. Some include photos, artists renderings, information about biographical works, transcriptions of newspaper articles, etc. Separate lists are provided for toreros from Spain, Portugal, France, and the Americas. The amount of information available about individual toreros is correlated with nationality (most for Spanish toreros) and degree of fame/notoriety. The novilleros section contains more than 160 entries, no national breakdown. The rejoneador section contains more than 50 entries, no national breakdown. Data about specific toreros is searchable from the site's homepage.
