Juan José Girón (Purple and gold): 2 ears with tail petition
and two
ears with tail petition.
Juan José Girón's performance has been frankly sensational, maybe
the
best since he arrived in Spain.
With his first bull he performed cape passes in a sensational way. He was
colossal in banderillas and with the muleta he did very well, killing with an
estoconazo that alone was worth the two ears and a strong tail petition.
With his second bull, one that displayed all the excellence of Santa
Coloma but with some complications, once in the face of the bull he proved that
he understood the animal perfectly. In quites Juan José performed a series
of chicuelinas that left the public "open mouthed". He rose to great
heights
in placing the banderillas, placing a pair al quiebro, with great exibition,
that were proclaimed by the crowd to be Sensational.
With the muleta one can only describe his faena as EXTRAORDINARIO. He
killed with a pinchazo and an estocada. The pinchazo cost him the tail, despite
a great and persistent petition by the public for the tail.
The very well presented bulls were:
1º Borracho, of Gabriel Rojas, choreado en verdugo, nº 133
2º Angelote, of Millares black, nº 17
3º Marinero, of Millares, black, nº 70
4º Mochuelo, of La Quinta, cardino claro, nº 32

Expectation to discover the course of the continuation of the dynasty
Girón in Juan José's presentation in Venezuela, in fact the cradle
of the
celebrated family of American bullfighters. Three quarters full, the best
crowd of season in the Plaza César Girón, of the Garden City.

Bulls: debute of Ganaderia Jerónimo Pimentel, (with the good fortune
of an
indulto for one of his bulls in this corrida).
Alternating with El Cid, Javier Conde, and David Luguillano. This was the
corrida where Javier Conde performed an incredible faena to "his perfect
bull", and when the huge crowd loudly demanded the indulto for this bull
also, and the judge refused to grant a second indulto, Javier continued
his sensational faena, allowing the third aviso to sound. After the great
bull was removed to the corals and ordered slaughtered, the San Cristóbal
Chief
of Police also refused to allow the noble animal to be killed, stating that
to kill such a bull would be criminal. The bull eventually returned to the
Pimentel ranch.

Review:
The Monumental of Valencia registered three quarters full, more than
12,000 spectators for the Corrida De La P.T.J., in which 6 bulls from the
Colómbian ranch of Ernesto Gutiérrez arango were fought, bulls
with proper age and
weight.
The great winner of the afternoon was Pedrito De Portugal who came out on
shoulders after cutting four ears. Juan José Girón cut an ear
and Ortega
Cano left empty handed after failing with the sword. While giving a
sensational estocada to his second bull, Juan José received a fracture
to a bone in his right hand,
which prevented him from fighting a seventh bull, gifted to him by the
empresaria Jonne Goiri.

Juan José's father, retired Matador De Toros Rafael Girón, died
in the
early morning of April 25, 2001. Rafael enjoyed many honors during his taurine
lifetime, but he considered none so great as having lived to see his son's
debut as Matador De Toros, and having his son perform for him the ceremony
of "cutting the coleta" on the occasion of Juan José's debut
in Maracay on
Nov. 26, 2000. SE FUE RAFAEL, LLEGÓ JUAN JOSÉ.... RAFAEL HAS GONE,
JUAN JOSÉ
HAS ARRIVED. SIGUE LA DINASTIA!
Juan José's next appearance will be in the Corrida De La Prensa, in
Venezuela in June. Following that corrida he will return to Spain to commence
his
Campaign 2001.
