Julián López
(El Juli)

Julián López was born in Madrid. As a present for his 9th birthday, he was permitted to enroll in Madrid's prestigious Escuela Taurina. In short order, Julián was recognized as having a remarkable, natural talent. At the age of 10 he killed his first becerro in Villa Muelas, Toledo, his Mother's birthplace. At 12 he debuted in a traje de luces in Mont de Marsan, France. And on April 27, 1997, he debuted as a novillero with picadores, again in Villa Muelas, Toledo.

By his thirteenth year, Julián had appeared in a total of 130 becerradas, festivals and novilladas, achieving much-noted successes all over Spain:

Julián traveled to México to begin a tour in the Americas, debuting in the Feria de Texcoco, March 16, 1997, where he was carried out in triumph after cutting ears. Since Texcoco, Julián has appeared with continued success in other important plazas -- San Miguel de Allende, Ciudad Juárez, Guadalajara, San Luis Potosí, and Chihuahua. And in the Feria de San Marcos in Aguascalientes, he was honored as the best novillero of the Feria, again carried out in triumph after cutting three ears.

The young novillero is the focus of attention from one end of the Mundo Taurino to the other, with high expectation for his return to Spain and France. Meanwhile he is meeting with continued success in México where early this June he will appear in the largest bullring in the world, Plaza México. That appearance will be followed by more appearances throught México, and in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, etc., closing the '97 temporada with the greatest number of novilladas possible ... preparation for his next appearance in Europe.
